The Second Touch
Jesus had just entered Bethsaida when a blind man was brought to him. After touching his eyes, Jesus said “ Do you see anything?” The blind man answered , I see people but they look like trees walking around.” The bible says, once more Jesus put his hands on the man eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight restored, and he saw everything clearly.
Oh, how we could use that second touch today. It is so easy to see people simply as trees walking around, to look only at the external and to not see clearly with the eyes of the heart. And when I look only at the external, there is so much to blind me. The color of skin, the kind of clothes that are worn and the physical appearance ; a different level of prosperity , a different smell, and an obnoxious habit, religions, political and social behavior that is different from mine, and on and on. And suddenly I found myself blind, unable to see a person clearly.
What a freeing thing it would be to learn to see with the heart, to see in each person the image of God, to see every individual as the chance for God’s work to be displayed (John 9:3)
